Supporting Letters

Contents of letters should give concise and specific examples of extra special service rendered rather than generalized statements.

  • e.g.  Additional responsibilities willingly undertaken, time and caliber of involvement; help given on projects, at camp, at meetings, trainings, etc.; encouragement of others; examples of outstanding contributions.

Please refer to the current POR for responsibilities of various Guiding roles.

Letters should come from a cross section of people involved in various aspects of Guiding and should normally come from other than relatives of the proposed recipient.

For a Guider, suitable sources of letters are:

  • her Commissioner and Members on her council
  • parents of girls in the group
  • girls or parents who have a personal knowledge of service
  • resource person who has worked with the Guider on Guiding projects.

For a Commissioner, suitable sources of letters are:

  • past and present members of her own Council
  • members of other Councils/Committees in which she in involved.
  • girls or parents who have a personal knowledge of service
  • for Area Commissioner, a cross section of the districts should be represented.

For a Committee member, suitable sources of letters are:

  • the Committee Chairwoman
  • other committee members, past and present
  • other Guiding members who work or have worked closely with her.
