“In Guiding, I have worked to have confidence in myself and become a leader. When I started, I was afraid to be involved since I had less experience than some of my fellow unit members. Each year I have slowly come to understand that I have value, and my ideas and opinions can be useful when shared. Girl Guides has allowed me the chance to have new experiences. I gained the confidence to apply for volunteering opportunities and work at summer camps, which are memories I will cherish forever. I also gained the courage to become a Junior Leader in an Embers unit this year. Essentially, I am a role model for the younger girl guides to show a positive example of caring, inclusiveness, and responsibility. Junior Leading has been an opportunity to use the lessons I learned in Rangers. I now have the confidence to lead activities, games, and programs for the Embers. It was even difficult at the start of the year, but as I began to become more involved in the planning process of meetings, I felt much more comfortable.”
